Overview:

Official Site

Toronto's public transportation system is an eclectic mix of an above- and below-ground subway system, trolley cars and diesel buses. The subway cars arrive regularly ever 2-5 minutes (depending on the time of day) and many of the trolleys and buses in the downtown core run 5-8 minutes apart.

The subway system itself runs east-west along the Blur Line and is intersected in three places with the north-south Young-University line. Each station is well served by trolleys and buses if your final destination is beyond walking distance from the station itself.

The trolleys tend to be in the older sections of the city and they are a great way to sight see, especially if you have a Day Pass which allows you to get on and off as often as you wish throughout the day. A Day Pass costs $7 while regular adult fare is $2.

It pays to be cautious while getting on and off the trolley cars. Their rails run down the center of the street and as a result you will be stepping across a lane of traffic as you get on and off. It is illegal for drivers to pass these vehicles when they are at a stop but it's better to look twice then risk getting hit because someone else is in a hurry.

The subway system runs from 5:30am until 1:30am, as do most of the bus and trolley lines. There are a few all night "Blue Lines" that run hourly. For advice on how to get around call 416-393-4636 24 hours, 7 days a week or visit their website at www.ttc.ca.
