· 1964 The government of Ontario
commissions Toronto architect Raymond Moriyama to design the
Science Centre as a Centennial project.

1966 Construction begins on a complex of three buildings
connected by glassed-in walkways and escalators, tumbling
over the ridge of the Don
Valley, 27 metres below.

1969 Premier John Robarts officially opens the Ontario
Science Centre on September 27.
·
1973 The Science Centre initiates its international Outreach
programs - including Science Circus, Seeing Brain, Bodyworks
and Optickles.

1974 FirstWorldCraftsExhibition"lnPraiseofHands"
features artisans from 50 countries.
·
1976 More than 200 Native people from the Arctic to the
Maritimes demonstrate their music, arts and technology at
"The Native Heritage" exhibition.

1977 Theexhibition "Deceptions in Art, Nature, and
Play" reveals to visitors how they perceive and how the
eyes can deceive.

1979 "The Wood Show' displays the many fascinating
facets ofoneof Ontario's top industries.
·
1982 Theexhibition "China: 7000Years of Discovery"
breaks all attendance records, attracting more than 1.15
million visitors from around the world.
The Centre opens a Science School for Ontario students.

1984 The Science Centre welcomes its 20 millionth visitor
and introduces "Scienceworks", the first of its
five best-selling hands-on books published by Kids Can
Press.

1986 The "Food" show becomes one of the Centre's
biggest draws.
· 1988
The "Sport" show is the Centre's first bilingual
exhibition. A copy is currently touring the U.S.
· 1990
The JASON Project starts its annual two-way, live TV link
between the Centre and science research projects around the
world.
· 1991
The"Mindworks" exhibitinnopens, a collaboratinn
with the American Psychological Association. A copy is
currently touring the U.S.
· 1992
The Challenger Learning Centre is created, an innovative
space station and mission control facility for students.
· 1993
"The Living Earth" opens, an exhibition exploring
the natural environment and the challenges of preserving it.
· 1995
"The Information Highway" links visitors with the
latest communications technology and "Human Body"
unravels the secrets inside us.

1996 "A Question of Truth" opens, challenging
points of view about science, race and prejudice.
·
1996 Shoppers Drug Mart® OMNIMAX® Theatre opens, the first
of its kind in Ontario.
·
1997 The Centre completes renewal of over 50 % of its
exhibits in five years
·
1997 OMNIMAX Theatre welcomes 500,000 visitor in December,
joining the ranks of the ten most successful domed theatres
in the world.

1998 Tourism Toronto's 1997 figures show Centre's attendance
growth makes it the fastest growing tourist attraction in
the GTA.
·
1998 Centre finishes its fiscal year with 1,010,000
visitors.
·
1999 The millennium exhibition, Timescape,. Unearthing
the Mysteries of Time, takes visitors into a gigantic
time warp; back to the beginnings of the Earth and forward
into the new millennium.

2000 For the third year in a row, Centre's attendance
exceeds the million mark
